A Reflection on Diigo, Bloom's Taxonomy, and Technology

Image
From Diigo, I have learned about annotating an actual website page, which I never really thought about before. I also learned about the group aspect of Diigo and how to share within a group. I think this can be really useful for homework, group projects, and individual projects. Diigo can be used in the same way that we have in class where it is a place where all of the students in the class can see the assignment and then post their answers and findings in a place where it is visible to all in the group. It can also be used to form groups for projects with multiple members. It could serve as the place where all information found on the subject can be placed so that all the members in the group are aware of all the facts and incoming information. Bloom’s Taxonomy has six different levels: knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. PowerPoint could be used in a lesson to help students go through these levels. Knowledge: remembering of previously ...

ILP #2 Design - Piktochart

Image
For the second ILP project, I chose to do a design technology. That technology was the website Piktochart. Piktochart allows the user to create any type of info-graphic to present either online or to be printed out. I designed an classroom announcement page that is kind of like the classroom website we had to create for our last assignment. Link to VoiceThread presentation: Original Piktochart: Loading...

Twitter, Web Design, and Adaptive Technology

Image
My experience with twitter hasn’t really changed since I started tweeting. I still always forgot to tweet each week, but I’m trying to be better about that. I am already pretty familiar with Twitter and all of its functions, so I think the only thing I learned was the use of twitter back channels for conferences. It was interesting to see all of the information that was coming out of the conference and being put on Twitter because I would never have thought to look on Twitter for information on a conference. Other than that, I haven’t really learning anything thing new. I also haven’t had any issues, just my own problems with forgetting to tweet. From working on the Web Design assignment, I have learned more about the CRAP principles of design. I have always liked organizing and designing my room or an art project and I have just used whatever I thought looked good and it was loosely based around design principles. Learning the exact deign principles has made me more aware ...

Web Design, Future Technology Use, and Tech Sandbox

Image
For the teacher pages, I looked at my high school’s website. At Marathon Middle High School, the grades range from 6-12. When I looked for teacher pages, there were only three pages on the entire website, and they were all created by the same teacher for her three classes. She teaches grades 9-12, but most of her students are the freshmen and sophomores that take Biology 1. It seems that the last time these pages were edited were during the 2016-17 school year. On her web pages , she includes NMSI study session dates, test date reminders, material lists, and links to her PowerPoint lessons. You can see all of this information was a student or a parent because when you go to the school website, there is no need to login as all of the information is public domain.  https://www.keysschools.com/domain/1116 In the future, I see myself using a digital calendar to keep track of my events along with my paper planner. I would probably also use Outlook email or any other email syste...

Web 2.0 Tools

Image
My initial experiences with using Diigo was pretty good. It was very easy to install and then the functions were very easy to use and move around whatever website I was annotating. I liked that I could take screenshots and only annotate a particular part of the article I was reading and share that screenshot with whatever group I wanted to. I think the only thing I didn’t like as much was that the sticky notes would stick to the top of the page and not necessarily around the section I wanted them to be placed in. Also, in order for a group to see a sticky note I posted, I would have to change it to public and then select the group, so that was annoying whenever wanted to add a new sticky note. The blogging experience was fairly similar to my experience with using Diigo. It has a simple format and it was easy to navigate the website and also mess around with all the different setting for the blog page. I like that there are so many different themes that you can choose from and tha...

A Discussion on Twitter, the Digital Divide, and Academic Software

My early experiences with using Twitter in relation to this class has been few and far between. I always forget to login into my Twitter and go through my feed twice a week. I have interacted with other students in my EME 2040 class as well as the official EME 2040 account. I also follow various account related to teaching and education such as Teacher2Teacher, MindShift, and WeAreTeachers, to name a few. These accounts help bring in related information and topics to my major of interest. It allows me to see the current problems, innovations, and growths in the education world. In my future career, this could help me participate in online twitter chats about conference that I might not be able to attend. Personally, I think that the digital divide definitely affects student success in schools. A digital divide is created when students do not have the same access to technology at school and at home. It can also come from having technology, but not having a good understanding of ho...
