A Reflection on Diigo, Bloom's Taxonomy, and Technology

From Diigo, I have learned about annotating an actual website page, which I never really thought about before. I also learned about the group aspect of Diigo and how to share within a group. I think this can be really useful for homework, group projects, and individual projects. Diigo can be used in the same way that we have in class where it is a place where all of the students in the class can see the assignment and then post their answers and findings in a place where it is visible to all in the group. It can also be used to form groups for projects with multiple members. It could serve as the place where all information found on the subject can be placed so that all the members in the group are aware of all the facts and incoming information.

Bloom’s Taxonomy has six different levels: knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. PowerPoint could be used in a lesson to help students go through these levels.
Knowledge: remembering of previously learned knowledge; providing a recap of the last lesson in the first few slides
Comprehension: ability to grasp meaning of material; discussion questions provided that the students have to talk about with the new material
Application: ability to use learned material in new and concrete situations; giving the students examples of questions and having them answer them as a game
Analysis: ability to break down material into its component parts so that the organizational structure may be understood; paring game that puts similar words together
Synthesis: ability to put parts together to form a new whole; provide students with a sorting game and let them put the terms with the correct concepts
Evaluation: ability to judge the value of material for a given purpose; give students multi part discussion questions that tie in all aspects of the lesson
New technology and teacher professional development tend to go hand in hand with each other. It seems that once a new piece of technology comes out to be used in the classroom, teachers have to sit though another training session to learn how to use the new technology. While most of these meetings are set up by the school and tend to take away from instructional days as well as some weekend days. Providing teachers with a list of current technologies that they go through on their own can allow for some of that time to come back.

This is a blog that is made by teachers for teachers K-12 that keeps up on all things education. This specific post describes ways in which teachers can keep up with the ever-changing technological world. It provides tips that are easy for a teacher to complete during their break time or when they are off work. They are simple steps that could make a teacher’s life much easier.
